Technology has definitely played a major role in changing the whole modern culture and has become very popular with the masses. There is a new culture on the rise, namely the gaming culture. It was born between the two of the major communication mediums out there today, namely computers and television. These two have changed the way people work and play permanently and it is something the youth, and these days people of all ages, are seriously drawn to.

Entertainment for the youth is increasingly becoming hi-tech, and gaming is taking it to a whole new level. The gaming culture comprises of games played on personal computers, or on gaming consoles like the Xbox, PlayStation or Wii, on the cell phones or on hand held gaming devices like the PSP or the Nintendo DS.

This platform is a true representation of the term 'Global Village' as it is open to all and things like age, gender and race don't come into play. The youth are collaborating and interacting with others like never before. The notion that kids play games in seclusion, in a dark room or the basement is baseless, as the games they play revolve around racing, puzzles and sports. Often these games are played in groups, which requires information sharing and encourages peer based learning. This automatically builds traits like team work and goal orientation which will help them in the real world.

The gaming culture can really be used as a powerful tool by educators. Many of the games you play these days are beneficial in improving communication, improving decision making skills and problem solving. There are also a large number of blogs, forums, and websites where gamers can chat to each other and collaborate to get better at a certain game.

If you have a look at the gaming culture these days is purely a technology driven form of socializing and interacting. Critics are just looking at the down side of it and not recognizing the many positive outcomes it can have. If games are played in moderation and not all the time it can be a very useful part of the development for children.
